** Best Sensation Play Device **

The sharp, little teeth glinted evilly in the candlelight. Deanna held the instrument up in the light so that Peter could get a good look at it. It appeared sinister, silver and shiny, as though it were some sort of medical tool designed purposefully to hurt. And perhaps it was.

Deanna smiled an anticipatory smile. “You’ll like this, Petey. It’s gonna make you feel so…” She paused and walked over to where he lay bound to the bed. “…so afraid.” She winked at him. “‘Cause see, here’s why.”

She placed her thumb up against the spiked wheel and pressed gently. The wheel rolled smoothly across her skin. “If I press lightly, it pricks. Hmmm….” She looked down at his naked form. “I wonder how it would feel if I pricked your prick with it?” She knelt and took him in her hand then swiftly bent and enclosed the head of his penis with her lips, caressing its tip with her tongue. He drew in his breath at the warm moistness of her mouth and felt himself beginning to harden. Then she laid the cold steel handle of the wheel against his shaft, and he froze as he imagined what she planned for him.

Deanna released him and straightened up, holding the wheel before him again. “Of course, if I press harder…” She raised her eyebrows, as if asking him a question. Then she smiled once more, a slow, predatory smile. “Well, I guess we’ll just see what happens when I press harder, won’t we?”

Jake’s Thoughts: This wicked looking device started out as a means for doctors to be able to test sensation in a patient’s limbs and body. It consists of a metal handle and a small, spiked wheel. To use it for either medical reasons or sensation play, the Dominant partner places the wheel against the submissive partner’s skin and rolls it up and down. The wheel turns smoothly and the spikes make contact with the skin, creating the “sensation” that this tool is famous for.

When light pressure is applied, the sensation is a distinct pricking feeling, as though sharp objects are being placed against your skin, but are not piercing it. If more pressure is applied, the pricking can become painful, and sufficient pressure will cause the skin to be punctured. The Wartenberg wheel may be used on many different body parts—your imagination will probably provide plenty of possibilities.

This wheel is solid metal, quite heavy, and appears to be stainless. It’s rolling action is smooth and its spikes are quite sharp. From a quality perspective, I see no particular visible room for improvement. It also looks ferocious, and its appearance can quickly ramp up the feeling of helplessness in a scene.

It’s the sensation that really ought to count the most, however, and here Joy and I were somewhat disappointed. Joy doesn’t much care for sharp objects like needles or knives, and the appearance of the Wartenberg wheel definitely intimidated her. Piercing and anything that draws blood doesn’t do much for me, either, so the ferocious look actually acted as a negative rather than a positive. The pricking sensation is somewhat different, but different doesn’t necessarily equate very well to pleasurable. While we’ve tried this a couple of times, generally I use it these days to enforce a feeling of Dominance, rather than for any sort of sensuality or excitement.

If you’re into this sort of thing, I believe that the Wartenberg wheel is well made, highly functional and intimidating in its appearance. For Joy and I, this is a novelty item that sees occasional use, but it’s really not our cup of tea. For those who like the idea of piercing and needles, however, this will probably hit the nail on the head (ouch!).
