They say that the male approach to shopping is to figure out what you need, and then go get it, whereas the female approach is to look through lots of products and offerings and determine what to buy based on what looks good. I’m sure this is an egregious over-generalization, and that there are many exceptions to it. However, I’m also sure that I fit the male stereotype quite nicely. If I have to buy something, I tend to go directly to the store where it is, buy it, and return home. There’s little to no time spent browsing other products to see if there’s something else I’d like, even if I’m at a mall with hundreds of stores.

When it comes to bondage, though, somehow I seem to make an exception. I often find myself visiting an online merchant or two and just browsing through their wares, looking for items that catch my interest, or that I think Joy would enjoy. The internet is a wonderful innovation for this type of activity, as it makes it so easy to look at a wide range of vendors and products all without leaving your chair. On the other hand, I have to say that if such a thing as a physical BDSM mall existed, and it had dozens of stores that offered bondage equipment and related products (preferably with onsite demonstrations), I’d probably find the time to visit it and look around as well!

Anyway, just this past week I went out and made three new purchases. Joy and I have yet to try them out—in fact, she doesn’t know about them, so Joy, if you’re reading this, look away! But they are a new spreader bar and two varieties of gag. What made me decide to buy them? Well, I guess partly it was slick marketing—I liked the way the merchant that sold them showed off their usage (a picture is truly worth a thousand words). But mostly it was because I could imagine interesting adventures using them, and picture Joy and I playing roles in those adventures. Funny, that–somehow bondage items trigger my imagination in ways shoes or kitchen goods or even power tools do not.

Anyway, you can probably expect to see reviews of these items sometime in the near future. Hopefully they’ll all be positive reviews, and we’ll be able to recommend all three! In the meantime…

Enjoy yourself!
